The organization recognizes three occupational categories in the engineering profession in Australia: Professional Engineer, Engineering Technologist, and Engineering Associate.
Engineers Australia Skill Assessment Fees
- Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) Assessment: Fees range from A$810.00 to A$1,408.00 depending on additional services like skilled employment or PhD assessments.
- Australian Accredited Engineering Qualification Assessment: Fees range from A$270.00 to A$868.00 depending on whether additional assessments, such as skilled employment or PhD assessment, are included.
- International Accord Qualification Assessment: Fees range from A$437.00 to A$1,035.00 depending on additional assessments.
- Additional Services and Administrative Fees: These range from A$110.00 for standard administration fees to A$648.00 for combined skilled employment and PhD assessments.
Fast Track Applications
Processing times can be long, but fast track options are available for quicker assignment to an assessor:
- Competency Demonstration Report (CDR): Fast Track in 20 working days (compared to standard 12 weeks).
- Accredited Australian and Accord Qualifications: Fast Track in 18 working days (compared to standard 8 weeks).
Occupational Categories
- Professional Engineer: Requires a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent.
- Engineering Technologist: Requires a 3-year Bachelor of Technology degree or equivalent.
- Engineering Associate: Requires a 2-year Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree.
- Engineering Manager: Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or a related field.
Assessment Pathways
- Australian Qualification Pathway: For qualifications accredited by Engineers Australia.
- Washington Accord Pathway: For qualifications from countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord, covering professional engineering programs.
- Sydney Accord Pathway: For qualifications from countries that are signatories to the Sydney Accord, covering engineering technologist programs.

Dublin Accord Pathway
If your qualification comes from a country that is a full signatory to the Dublin Accord and was obtained in the same year or later than the country’s accession to the Accord, you may apply for a skills assessment under the Dublin Accord Pathway. Your qualification must be listed as fully accredited in the signatory’s published listings, with the qualification date aligning with the accreditation dates.

Qualifications accredited or recognized by any signatory are acknowledged as substantially equivalent to accredited qualifications within each jurisdiction. The signatories are:
- Australia – Engineers Australia (EA) (2013)
- Canada – Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT) (2002)
- Ireland – Engineers Ireland (EI) (2002)
- New Zealand – Engineering New Zealand (EngNZ) (2013)
- Korea – Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) (2013)
- South Africa – Engineering Council South Africa (ECSA) (2002)
- United Kingdom – Engineering Council United Kingdom (ECUK) (2002)
- United States – Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) (2013)

Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) Pathway
If your qualification is not accredited with Engineers Australia, is from a non-accord country, or was obtained before your country became a signatory, you can apply for a skills assessment through the Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) Pathway. Here are the steps to prepare a CDR:
Personal Information
- Documentation: Include a recent passport-sized photo (35mm x 45mm, JPEG format, clear background, no selfies), current passport bio-data page, and any name change documentation if applicable (e.g., marriage certificate).
- CV/Resume: Provide a comprehensive CV of no more than three A4 pages, detailing your engineering education, work experience, and periods of inactivity. Include organization names, locations, contact details, employment dates, titles, and descriptions of roles.
Application
- Occupational Category: Nominate your preferred occupational category and include evidence of professional registration if applicable.
Education
- Academic Documentation: Submit academic certificates, transcripts, and course syllabi. If you have multiple engineering qualifications, include all relevant documents. If enrolled in a formal program, submit the enrollment letter and current transcript.
Skilled Employment
- Employment Evidence: Applicants must provide employment evidence for career episodes based on engineering experience. If documents are not in English, submit both the original and translated versions by an authorized translator.
- Reference Letters: Provide a reference letter or certificate of employment from your employer on official company letterhead, detailing your title, employment dates, and job description.
- Document Requirements: Submit both primary and secondary documents as outlined below.

Option 1:
- Official reference letter with:
- Five specific duties undertaken.
- Job title and employment dates (dd/mm/yyyy).
- Endorsement by a manager or HR with contact details.
- Work hours and pay rate.
- Company stamp (if applicable).
Option 2:
- Official reference letter with employment dates.
- Plus one of the following:
- Job offer letter detailing duties.
- Annual performance review with duties.

- Income tax return acknowledgement or receipt.
- Social security or retirement fund statements.
