All applicants for skilled independent visa must pay 189 visa fees at the time of lodgement.
Subclass 189 Visa Costs
When lodging a Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa, both the primary applicant and all dependent family members must pay the visa application charge. Some applicants may also be required to pay a second instalment before a decision is made on their application.
Subclass 189 Visa Fee (2024)
Primary Applicant
The visa application fee for the primary applicant is A$4,765.
Additional Applicant (18 Years and Over)
For applicants aged 18 years or older, the visa application fee is A$2,385.
Additional Applicant (Under 18 Years)
For applicants under the age of 18, the visa application fee is A$1,195.
Second Instalment Before Visa Grant
Applicants aged 18 and over who are assessed as not having functional English must pay a second instalment of A$4,885. To meet the functional English requirement, applicants must satisfy one of the following criteria:
- Hold a valid passport from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland. British National (Overseas) passports are not accepted.
- Completed a degree, diploma, or trade certificate with at least two years of full-time study where instruction was in English.
- Completed at least 3 years of secondary school or 5 years of primary and secondary education in an English-speaking institution.
- Completed at least 1 year of full-time or equivalent study toward an award in an Australian institution where instruction was in English.
- Achieved an average band score of at least 4.5 across the four components of an approved English test.
Subsequent Temporary Application Charge
No additional charge is payable for lodging a Subclass 189 application onshore.
Subclass 189 Visa Fee – New Zealand Stream (Closed)
Primary Applicant
The visa application fee for the primary applicant in the New Zealand stream is A$850.
Additional Applicant (18 Years and Over)
For applicants aged 18 or older, the visa application fee is A$425.
Additional Applicant (Under 18 Years)
For applicants under the age of 18, the visa application fee is A$210.
Second Instalment Before Visa Grant
- Primary applicants meeting the criteria must pay a second instalment of A$3,390.
- Secondary applicants aged 18 and over must pay A$1,695.
- Secondary applicants under 18 must pay A$850.
