The purpose of the Student visa is to allow international students to undertake full-time education and training in Australia. This visa enables a student to stay in Australia for the duration of the relevant course. The student must enrol, or in some cases have a letter of offer, with an Australian education provider before lodging a visa application.

Student visa Australia (subclass 500)

The Student visa (subclass 500) allows you to remain in Australia for up to 5 years for the purpose of full-time study at an educational institution, in line with your enrolment.

WITH THIS VISA YOU CAN:

  • take part in an eligible course of study
  • include your family members in your application (your partner or you and your partner’s dependent child.
  • apply online in or outside Australia
  • work up to 40 hours every 2-week period once your course starts.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE STUDENT VISA 500?

  • you must be 6 years or older
  • provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) at a full-time course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and courses for Overseas Students, CRICOS
  • show evidence of your English language skills
  • you and your family members must be covered by Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) from an approved Australian health insurance provider for the length of your stay in Australia
  • If you’re under 18 years of age, you must have adequate welfare arrangements in place while you are in Australia
  • meet health and character requirements
  • have enough money to fund your stay and studies
  • You must also fulfill the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement to secure a student visa in Australia.
 

GTE REQUIREMENT

As part of your student visa application the department will assess to see if you are genuinely going to stay in Australia temporarily (Genuine Temporary Entrant).

In order to prove this, we need evidence such as: 

  • statement of purpose 
  • evidence of your/your family economic circumstances in home country (this is very important, you can show your family’s financial situation in home country by bank accounts, whether they have a business, house, etc.)
  • ties to your home country (evidence of financial and personal ties to your home country, such as evidence of assets in home country consistent with your family background, family or social ties that would provide sufficient inducement for them to return to home country at the end of your studies). Please provide a list of your family members and other social ties (friends, previous co-workers, etc.)
  • evidence of past study (we have your accounting diploma)
  • work experience (we do not have any work experience evidence) – Please provide evidence of employment for at least the previous
  • 12 months, evidence of an offer of employment upon your return home, tax returns or financial statements
  • letter from your employer or statement from the applicant attesting to a need by the applicant for (improved) skills for the purposes of their employment or career prospects
  • evidence of a range of professional or academic outcomes supporting the need for a new career direction.
 

WORKING RIGHTS ON STUDENT VISA 500.

The student visa 500 allows you to work up to 20 hours per week or 40 hours fortnightly. You would be allowed to start your part-time work once the course starts. However, international students enrolled in ACT public schools can work 10 hours maximum during the academic school year.

OUR PROCESS

1. INITIAL CONSULTATION
During our consultation we will assess your eligibility for the 191 visa. We will discuss your circumstances and then inform you of all the requirements and create a strategy for you if you are eligible.
2. DOCUMENT PREPARATION
Once we have determined that you satisfy the criteria for a Student Visa application then we proceed with collecting the required documentary evidence from you.
3. COE APPROVAL
We complete and send an application for enrollment in your chosen educational institution (if you already haven’t). Its important we have a COE (Confirmation Of Enrollment) and a letter of offer before we can apply for the visa.
4. VISA APPLICATION PREPARATION
Once we have received the COE and the letter of offer we can proceed with preparing the visa application and ensuring all requirements have been met. One final quality control and we are ready to lodge with the department.
5. VISA APPLICATION APPROVAL
We lodge the visa with the department decision ready. We then wait for the department to process the visa application. Processing times can vary depending on the departments resources and the amount of applications. We will keep you informed throughout the process. Once approved you may start your studies.
